'PK' Movie ('Peekay') Box Office Collection: Aamir Khan-Starrer Grosses ₹620 Crore Worldwide -ibtimes
Aamir Khan-starrer "PK" ("Peekay") has grossed ₹620 crore at the worldwide box office with major chunk of its collections coming from India.
"PK" has minted ₹324.25 crore nett in 23 days including its fourth Saturday collections, which amount to ₹2.25 crore. The film's gross collections from India stand at ₹467 crore, while its collections from overseas markets amount to ₹153 crore. The Aamir-starrer has raked in ₹620 crore at the worldwide box office, according to Koimoi.
The film has surpassed the worldwide collections of "Dhoom 3" (₹542 crore), but it is yet to beat the overseas collections of "Dhoom 3", which stand at ₹170 crore.
"PK" has emerged as the highest grossing film of 2014 and has already created the ₹300-crore club. According to trade experts, "PK" might end up collecting ₹340 crore as lifetime collections at the Indian box office. The recent protests over the film's content seem to have affected the film's collections to some extent.
"It would have done better had all the religious uprisings not occurred. Since the theatres were being vandalised at certain places by the religious protesters, many avoided going to the cinema halls, thus affecting the collections a bit," exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi told the Financial Express.
Besides having done well in India, "PK" has also performed exceptionally well in major overseas markets like the US, Australia and the UK. It has also done good business in Pakistan by minting over ₹18 crore and is expected to soon beat the collections of Pakistani film "Waar," which was reportedly the highest grossing film of 2014 in the country.
"PK has made over Rs18 crore in Pakistan and continues to attract movie-goers. It will be in cinemas until the end of January so I'm sure it will make a lot more," Hassaan Rizvi, Marketing Manager from Distributor Club (PVT) Ltd, told Dawn.
The success of "PK" has once again proved the star power of Aamir Khan. Despite not being a commercial entertainer, "PK" has managed to attract the audience, thanks to its unique theme and Aamir's performance. The second-time collaboration of the actor with director Rajkumar Hirani has struck gold at the box office post the stupendous success of their 2009-release "3 Idiots."
With new release "Tevar" having failed to take off on a good start, "PK" is expected to continue doing some decent business at the box office.
