Delhi's Trilokpuri on boil, curfew imposed
Rioters threw stones and used swords; gunshots
NEW DELHI : Curfew was imposed in east Delhi's Trilokpuri on Saturday after rioters from two communities clashed with police through the day, leaving more than 45 people injured, 20 of them cops. Five people sustained gunshot injuries. Police arrested 85 people on charges of rioting and a senior police officer said the situation was "tense but under control".
Mobs took over the streets from Friday night after a petty fight at a religious gathering on Diwali led to clashes between the two communities. Both groups hurled bricks, acid bulbs and bottles at each other and set several shops and vehicles on fire. Some of them also carried swords. Stone-pelting and violence was reported from several parts; blocks 15, 23, 27 and 32 were the worst hit.
